Search Engine Optimization Ethics
In the past search engine optimization has already been used in ways less than ethical: keywords were spammed in web content unrelated to them. Search engine users suffered search results that had no relation to what they were actually looking for. Search engines had to come up with a solution for the rising damaging trend, and websites had to make their own adjustments] to the adjustments made by search engines to counter this threat from abusing search engine optimization.
This cycle was all started by corrupting search engine optimization into a means to mislead and unethically generate traffic for a useless website. The bottom-line to all of this is the lack of governing bodies and standard rules and regulations by which the online industry of internet marketing should go by. As such, proper ethics and netiquette is ignored and malicious acts go unchecked. It might be high time for a recognized, official governing body to set standards and ideals in such a large, proliferate, and almost all-encompassing industry in the online environment like internet affiliate marketing. In fact, search engine optimization ethics should just be the start. Other marketing facets should also have a standard set of ethics upon which marketing activity should be funded. It’s only practical what with the vastness of internet marketing today.
